After stopping by South Figaro, Edgar, Terra & Locke headed to Mt. Kolts, where they ran into a man named Vargas. Vargas, assuming that Sabin sent them here, attacked them and a long battle result. Finally, to Edgar's surprise, Sabin stepped in to help them finish off Vargas, and the twin brothers were finally reunited. Much to Edgar's delight, Sabin agreed to join them.
They arrived to the Returner's hideout and discussed Terra's situation with Banon. Banon asked Terra for her help, but Terra still had uncertainties. Edgar told her to make up her own mind, since forcing her to help them would make them no better than the Empire.
Terra eventually agreed to help them, but as the Returners discussed their next move, news arrived that South Figaro has been taken over by the Empire, and the Imperial troops are now heading to the Returner's hideout. Edgar asked Locke to head to South Figaro to slow the Imperial troops down while they escape to Narshe. Banon, Terra, Sabin and Edgar escaped using a raft to travel down the river. However, they ran into Ultros, and the resulting battle caused Sabin to be separated from the party. Edgar, Terra and Banon continued to travel down the river until they reached Narshe. They waited in Arvis' house for the arrival of Locke and Sabin.
When Locke arrived with Celes and Sabin arrived with Gau and Cyan, words came that the Empire has launched an attack on Narshe. Banon and Edgar decided that they needed to protect the Esper found in Narshe's cave. After the battles with the Imperial troops and Kefka, The troops retreated from Narshe for the time being. When the Returners checked on the Esper, a strong reaction occurred between Terra and the Esper, and Terra flew away uncontrollably.
